this is one of my favorite korean dishes. it’s a sweet and savory dish, and it’s easy to make! ;) i love to eat this with rice and kimchi. the base of the recipe can be found on this website.

serves 4

1 lb thinly sliced beef steak (you can find this at most asian supermarkets)
1/4 C soy sauce (i would highly recommend one of the asian soy sauces)
2-3 tbsp of sesame oil
1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
1 kiwi fruit, asian pear, or fuji apple pureed in a food processor
1 onion, thinly sliced
2-3 cloves garlic, finely minced
5 green onions, finely chopped
2 tbsp rice wine or sake
sugar

  1. combine all the marinade ingredients (everything except beef). add sugar to taste. the marinade should be slightly sweet.
  2. add the beef, and make sure it is well coated. marinate for at least an hour (overnight preferred).
  3. place aluminum foil on grill, and heat the grill* (this is so the meat won’t fall through when grilling). grill the mean until cooked; it should take 2-3 minutes per side.

*note: you can also pan fry the bulgogi.
